Abstract Sustainable development presents a number of challenges for the construction industry. Among them are reaching higher levels of quality and efficiency in its production processes and the consumption of natural resources. The aim of this paper is to present an analysis of the energy and water consumption during the construction phase of buildings, showing measures that can be adopted in the production process in order to reduce resources and improve the process performance. This research was carried out in six construction sites in the city of Passo Fundo-RS, monitoring the monthly consumptions over 5 years. As results, economic, technological and social actions are proposed to improve these indicators. The results show that continuous monitoring and management of water and energy consumption in the construction sites is necessary. Suggested actions include commitment from the company's management to efficiently use the resources in the construction sites.
