Abstract This article, which results of a research under development in a public university, uses the theoretical and methodological framework of the Ethnomethodological Conversation Analysis to analyze talk to interaction in the health context with the purpose of investigating the occurrences of self-repair performed by an aphasic man. Recorded data were transcribed according to conventions proposed by conversation analysts. The results show different organizations of self-repair as an adaptive strategy, suggesting pragmatic expertise of the aphasic in the engagement in the ongoing interaction and in the resolution of interactional problems arising from his linguistic deficits.
