Paulo, O Globo and Correio Braziliense. In order to do so, a comprehensive mapping of these online publications was carried out, collecting all the texts published during the period considered for the research - from 2011 to 2013 - that resulted from searches by keywords, leading to 750 texts. This article takes a partial focus of these data, exploring how O Globo represents the homeless population in news thematizing public policies. The texts were analyzed in their verbal and visual aspects, with tools from critical discourse analysis and the grammar of visual design. The analytical results point to the emphasis of the news in the occupation of the public space, both in the images and in the verbal texts, and the naturalization of the unequal distribution of resources and the segregation of classes, through the locative relations that are designed. There are privilege spaces that are impenetrable to population segments like homeless people. Inequality is normalized, including by the use of irony, in the case of verbal texts.

2018-09-19 03:04:43 critical discourse analysis homelessness public policies
