Factors associated to the immunization verification following hepatitis B vaccine among primary care workers

Abstract Introduction The verification of immunization following Hepatitis B vaccination is a simple procedure that offers security to the worker and should be a routine action among Primary Health Care workers. However, there is still a lack of discussions on this subject of remarkable relevance. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of verification of immunization after vaccination against hepatitis B among workers of Primary Health Care and their association with occupational factors, overall health and self-care measures. Methods a cross-sectional study evaluating a sample of 400 workers, with confidence and precision of 95%, between August and December 2011, in the northern city of Minas Gerais. Bivariate analysis and Poisson regression were performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 17.0. Results We observed immunity in 25.8% of the 400 workers vaccinated for hepatitis B. Factors associated with the verification were related to the team, working arrangements, contact with biological material and job satisfaction (p<0.05). We found lower prevalence among contract workers and lower education (p<0.05). Conclusion the verification of immunization is not set as routine, we observed a lower rate among contract workers with less training, showing neglect of occupational health.
