Abstract This article aims to analyze Basic Education teacher training policies in Brazil through the legislative production between 2007 and 2014, in order to point out aspects and contradictions that characterize the policies instituted during the 53rd and 54th Legislatures of the National Congress. Document research was conducted with the databases of the Senate and the parliament, identifying the 05 propositions which became laws during this period, all authored by the President. The results suggest the protagonism of the federal executive power as a regulator of the country’s Basic Education teacher training policies, it also indicates an effort to articulate actions in a systemic perspective, and denotes great challenges to materialize what is proposed by law.
